During the sailing season, competition is held Thursday evenings near Wilson, NY, a small town near Lake Ontario. On this evening, there was a nice selection of boats and very little wind.

Location
This is a view of Lake Ontario, near Wilson, NY. During the Sailing Season, there are several races held, including the Thursday night events all summer. This was a particularly calm night...Time
This image was captured at approximately 8:00PM.Lighting
This location, on the Wilson Pier, often has beautiful skies, and a wonderful sunset is fairly common.Equipment
Lens used is a Tamron 150-600, and the Camera is a Canon 7D Mk2Inspiration
A small group of photo enthusiasts usually meet each week to photograph the races.Editing
RAW conversion in Lightroom, and some additional processing in PSE, and Topaz Adjust. In my camera bag
For the sailboat images, the long Tamron is a staple, with a second camera close at hand. It usually wears a Sigma 17-50, but sometimes a Canon 10-18 is selected.Feedback
One of the things I like best about sailboats is tat there really isn't a need for lots of equipment. Of course, the longer the lens, the better sometimes. But taking time to get the proper exposure will almost always result in a fine image. And even the fastest sailboat, at a distance, does not often require an extremely fast shutter. Many times 1/500 is enough, but 1/1250 is usually the fastest I use, allowing for a bit lower ISO (clarity) and still a smaller f/stop for good DOF.
