Location
This photo was taken at the 40th Street subway station in Queens, New York.Time
This is one of the best photos I’ve taken at this venue. I was on the 7 train and decided to alight at the 40th street station to check out the view. It was very sunny and the light created layers of the Manhattan skyline. This was taken on March 10, 2016 at 6:30pm.Lighting
The sun was shining bright and cast a beautiful natural light on the Manhattan skyline. Shooting into the sun is a challenge and I have to use one hand to block out any flare. and I also waited for the train to pull into station before I took the shot.Equipment
This was shot handheld with Nikon D750, with an 24-120mm f4.0 lens.Inspiration
I wanted to capture the Manhattan skyline in a different perspective. Everything just came together beautifully in this photo, from the foreground of the train to the silhouette of Empire State Building on the background.Editing
I shot this in RAW and post processed it in Adobe Lightroom with minimum edits. I corrected the white balance, add a bit of contrast and clarity to it.In my camera bag
When I’m out on the street, I always have my trusty Nikon D750 and 24-120mm f4.0 lens with me.Feedback
The weather is pretty unpredictable. So do check the weather forecast before heading out. The weather app is pretty accurate these days. Patience is key too. You have to wait for the right moment to take the shot. Take different compositions and see which one you like most. I always challenge myself to take different compositions if I revisit the same venue again.
