Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Kirkjufellsfoss, in west Iceland. I am a self taught photographer. I am also thirteen years old. Any chance i get to be outdoors I take.

Time

I took this photo after a long drive from Vik. We got here right before 4:00. It was nice, soft lighting.

Lighting

I wanted to emphasize a dramatic tone, and a long exposure helped with that.

Equipment

Canon 6D with a Canon 16-35 f2.8 mark ii. The tripod was an Induro CLT 204. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo because the conditions were lining up extremely well, which is rare in photography. I had done a lot of research to find out that this was one of the waterfalls in Iceland I wanted to go to most.

Editing

I used Lightroom to bring some contrast into the picture. I use a gradient filter in Lightroom and I dodge and burned it.

In my camera bag

I usually have a canon 6D and two lenses with me (one wide-angle and another telephoto). I always bring three batteries, which is essential on backpacking trips.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to get wet, muddy, or freezing cold. It is all part of the experience and allows for those memories to be with you for a long time. Also, play around with angles before you start shooting. It is important to find a composition that is unique, not just the one everyone else uses. The best photos in this world are not generic.
