Location
This photo was taken last year in Kinderdijk, the Netherlands. Kinderdijk is famous for its mills, they are listed on UNESCO World Herritage list. There is an annually event wich takes place in September and during this one week event all Kinderdijk's Mills are lit in the evening. If anyone reading this should visit the Netherlands some time here is an very usefull link on the web (english) : https://www.kinderdijk.com/area/unesco-world-heritage-windmills-kinderdijkTime
During evening time, 09.21 p.m. according to exif data. That is about one hour after sunset in September in the Netherlands.Lighting
Nothing really special about this photo. The mills are lit and that's about it. Nothing but natural lighting.Equipment
This image was shot with a Canon 6D with an EF 17-35 f/2.8L USM lens on a tripod. Exif data ISO 800, f 6.3 and a shutter speed of 5 seconds.Inspiration
I like long exposure shots, but I also like out of the ordinary shots. While driving to Kinderdijk I was wondering if the wings of the mills would spin. If they did, I would be able to create what I had in mind, an image of a mill with spinning wings. Fortunately some mills did spin, and I was able to take the shot I had in mind An mill like a giant fan :-)Editing
Some basic post processing in Lightroom, I also did some cropping to get a panorama look. That's about it.In my camera bag
Let's see...(opening up my bag ;-) -Canon EOS 6D -EF 24-70 f/4L USM IS lens -EF 70-200 f/2.8L USM lens -Yongnuo speedlite YN560 IV flash with difuser -Yongnuo YN560-TX remote manual flash controller - HoyaProND 10 stops ND filter - Hoya Pro Circular PL filter - Cleaning cloth - Wireless trigger - battery packs (2*4) and last but not least my tripod (Velbon VS443-D) I also have a EF 50mm f1.8 prime, an older EF 100-300mm f5.6 and a EF 35-105mm f3.5-f4.5 but I don't use them very often.Feedback
Practice, that is the best I can give as advice. Find tutorials on the net, watch Youtube for video's and go out in the field to practice. Find anything that is moving and be creative! Water, clouds, carnival, themeparks and mills ofcource ;-) With or without filters, there is always a way to be creative with long exposures :-)
