Behind The Lens

Location

Photo was taken from Moke Lake, New Zealand. Im a self taught photographer

Time

This photo was taken about 1am in the middle of winter chasing the southern aurora. had to drive thru snow to get to the spot the ground was frozen solid and lens was frosting over

Lighting

southern aurora. Got away from town so there was no light pollution

Equipment

Photo was with canon 7D, 10-22mm f/3.5 lens and manfrotto tripod

Inspiration

Saw some ones post of the aurora on local page and didnt realise we got the aurora here. As soon as i saw the photo i joined the local aurora page and learnt how to find out when aurora happening. started going out every time i could if were happening and learnt to to photograph them

Editing

only a little with Iphoto as didnt have and editing programs

In my camera bag

Canon 7D, Canon 10-22mm lens, Canon 24-105mm Lens and a manfrotto tripod

Feedback

Get yourself a tripod as you wont hold the camera still for a long exposure. use F as low as you can. put lens in manual and focus to infinity. play with your shutter speed and iso until you get the aurora clear and the photo you want
