Location
My younger siblings had found this little guy injured, and were holding it on the porch when I took the shot.Time
If I remember correctly I took this in the middle of the day.Lighting
As I composed the shot to hid the hands holding the bird, I really wanted to get as much of the color and detail of birds feathers as I could. While also getting a dark background to really focus on the bird.Equipment
For this one I was using my old canon T2i with my reverse mounted 50mm f/1.8 lens.Inspiration
The opportunity arose and I wasn't about to miss a chance to get such a detailed picture of a beautiful bird.Editing
I actually took this photo back before I had lightroom, and wasn't yet shooting in raw so I was limited to the basic photo editing software that was pre-installed on my laptop. In my camera bag
At the time I was using a canon T2i, but have since upgraded to the canon 760D. I always have my canon 50mm f/1.8, my canon 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5, and my canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 lenses with me.Feedback
I got lucky with the opportunity to get this shot. Always be ready, you never now what you will come across.
