Location
This photograph was taken at my photography school's studio in Cape Town.Time
The great thing about shooting in a studio is being able to control the light, for instances I was able to do this shoot midday.Lighting
I used two studio lights with soft boxes attached.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon d3000 with two studio lights and a reflector.Inspiration
My brief was a creative "editorial" type shoot. When I was looking for inspiration, I came across a photo shoot that used real butterflies and loved it, but I wanted to do something with a color scheme. So I ended up somewhere in the middle.Editing
I did this shoot when I just started studying photography, so very minimal post-production was done, as I knew very little about editing. I just played around with the levels in photoshop. In my camera bag
I usually only have my Nikon D3s body and Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 and that's heavy enough for just "everyday" shooting.Feedback
Always have a plan B, on the day of my shoot the make-up artist never pitched and had to find one last minute. Also one thing to keep in mind is that the butterflies are a bit heavy and pull down on the her face, so place them strategically.
