Location
This photo was taken in a field not far from our house in Galway, Ireland. It was a long field that dipped towards the far end, giving me a low horizon and lots of sky.Time
This was taken in the evening around 5pm. The day was already dull and overcast and we were heading into the golden hour just before sunset.Lighting
As it was a dull day, I blended a sky from the same area, but on a brighter day to add to the effect.Equipment
I shot with a Pentax K-5iis and a 50mm prime lens.Inspiration
My daughter was complaining about the weather being so bad and we were already well into Spring. I seen a similar photo before and thought it would be a lot of fun to recreate it.Editing
Yes, I blended a brighter sky from a previous photo and then I lightly painted over it with the same colour. I also painted the blue on the brush and the droplets. The only item that wasn't in the original photo was the paint bucket. In my camera bag
Along with my K-5iis, I carry a K-x as a backup. I always have a 50mm prime, 17-50mm wide, and a 70-300mm zoom, so I have a great variety of options to choose from. I also always carry a couple of nd filters to help with long exposures, and a speed light incase I need some fill light.Feedback
I think sharpness is the key here, as it helps with compositing. Next time I would bring a real paint bucket and paint.
