I live close to the beach and on this particular day, I did not expect to see so much of the Sargassum washing up on shore. I photographed it drifting, wondering where it came from and its purpose in the ocean. I walked home and for the rest of the afternoon researched the Sargasso Sea located in the North Atlantic Subtropical Gyre! I was intrigued by its formation beyond the Gulf Stream and discovered that whales, sea turtles and eels find themselves within the Sargasso Sea for protection or during migratory passages. I am fascinated by this ecosystem in a space without land boundaries. Perhaps I will make a sailing voyage to what is called "the golden floating rainforest of the Atlantic."
