Location
This photo was taken in a residential area close to my home here in San Diego. The model Gabriela Tristan and her manager wanted photos for her upcoming CD called Sunflower Dreams so we decided on a 60's type theme and she purchased some retro type clothes and the flower band for her hair. I figured we could just look around our local canyons to find a spot that would possibly work out for us. The shoot took a bit longer than I expected as I planned on some shots of her wandering the canyon in the bright light. After looking at them we decided to try some when the sun was starting to go down (Golden Hour)Time
Originally I planned a shot with lots of sun so we went down to the spot around 5:30 pm or so. After a bunch of different shots in the shade, under trees, in the open fields I wasn't to thrilled with the shots as they didn't seem dreamy enough If that makes sense :D So we were just playing around with different shots while waiting for the sun to go down. I took over 300+ shots and we were out there having lots of fun till the lighting got to where I wanted it to be. Date Time Original - 2015:06:08 20:17:17Lighting
All I can share about the lighting would be to have some patience and fun while waiting for it. As soon as the sun started dipping right above the horizon it got really good and that's when we started shooting serious again.Equipment
I used my Nikon D700 attached to my Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 with my settings on ƒ/2.8 200.0 mm Shutter Speed 1/2500 ISO1000 My ISO was actually set to ISO1000 from the shooting the night before, I don't usually have my ISO up that high shooting during the daytime. Glad it worked out.Inspiration
The inspiration came from the title Gabriela named her CD, Sunflower Dreams. We just got together and talked about a theme for it and this is what we got from it.Editing
Very minimal processing was done, I did reduce the yellows and orange a bit as it was a bit overwhelming. I also did a tad bit of blur to the background to give it a more dreamy effect all done with DxO Optics Pro 8 and CS2.In my camera bag
My backpack is always holding my Youngno speed light, Nikon D700, Sigma 12-24mm, Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8, Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8, and Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 and a few filters If I see anything needing some long exposure. A flashlight and some lens cleaners.Feedback
I'd have to say the location is key for the type of shot your trying to get. If you want something similar to this then just be patient for the right light. Take a few captures then look at them in your viewfinder. Just a matter of minutes can make all the difference in the world :D
