Location
I took this photo in La Jolla California.Time
I shot this at sunrise (about 6:15am). This is my favorite time to shoot wave photography as I love the light it produces.Lighting
This is my favorite time to shoot wave photography as I love the light it produces. The way the sunlight looks as the sun comes over the hill in La Jolla creates a yellow and orange that I love. The clouds on this morning added some great highlights as well.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D mkIII with a Canon EF 8-15 F/4 Fisheye L lens. I have all my gear protected while in the water with an SPL Waterhousing.Inspiration
I love being in the ocean as much as I can. When I am going to shoot in the morning, I will normally wake up and look at the sky. This particular morning the way the clouds looked at my house is what made me go to the beach and shoot.Editing
I use Lightroom and my normal post processing is simply to get the photo back to what I saw before the wave goes over me. Since I shoot in RAW, that is my process. In my camera bag

The biggest advise is I can give is to know your break and use good lighting. Most people who are shooting these types of photos are shooting, just to shoot and post to instagram. The realy good ones use the light and background as much as the wave to make the image more appealing.
