This my fur baby, Madeline, a rescue dog. I took this photo in my living room, using a leather chair as a backdrop. She had such a soulful look that I had to grab my camera and get down on floor with her to take this shot.Time
It was evening. Madeline is very sensitive to light and movement, and the beams on our ceiling at night cast shadows that seem to fascinate her, giving her this almost prayerful look.Lighting
To make her pop, I turned the can lights in our living room ceiling up full as Madeline was directly below one of themEquipment
My camera was a Samsung NX300, 20-50mm lens and the shot was handheld.Inspiration
Capturing special photos of my two dogs is important to me, and I'm always on the look out for defining moments to showcase their unique canine personalities.Editing
I try to do only minimal editing as needed. I gave the saturation a small boost because I wanted to bring out the color in the chair. In my camera bag
I travel pretty light...20-50mm lens, 50-200 OIS Lens, Lens Hood, Lens Cleaner, Spare Storage Cards, collapsible mini reflector, band-aids, small notepad and a couple of pens. , Charger Cord, collapsible mini reflectorFeedback
When photographing pets or animals, l look for their personality to shine through, especially in their eyes. Putting yourself on their level and getting up-close can also add a great deal of impact. And as always, patience is a virtue. The more at ease and calm you are, the more the animal will relax and act naturally. The reward is usually a memorable and amazing photograph.
