Location
This photo was taken in a field in Bentonville, Arkansas. I am a self taught photographer and now own a boudoir studio & lingerie store in Conway, Arkansas.Time
I took this photo during the 'Golden Hour' The sun was beginning to set and the light was glistening off her and her dress perfectly. Everything was so beautiful and I was inspired to make her dress "move". So I had her twirl and we ended up getting some amazing images of her twirling. I then wanted a more simple look, but still with movement in the dress so I had her pick up the train of her dress and softly drop it. I was thrilled with the results!Lighting
The "Golden Hour" is my favorite time of day and especially my favorite time for natural light sessions. This particular evening was a perfect sunset and all the light seemed to glisten off of her.Equipment
Nikon D4Inspiration
Arrow commissioned me to be her wedding photographer even though she lives three hours away. She wanted to take her bridals in her home town so I made the trip north to come to her. I had no idea where we would do the session until I was almost to her home and past this beautiful field of wildflowers at a park. I love wildflowers and so I decided a few minutes before arriving to her home that this was wear we would take her images.Editing
My style is usually very simple, but this image inspired me to do much more editing than I normally do. I edited the shy and her separately first, added some curves, vignette and a matte finish for a bit of an old time look, but still a bit modern. In my camera bag
I carry at least one Nikon D4, a Nikon 35 & 85. I rarely need much more than a good portrait lens and a wide angle lens to make the image that is in mind come to life.Feedback
Think beyond just getting the shot. My clients are not professional models and getting them to do what is in my mind can be very hard to do. Over the years I have developed ways to make them relax and also make them do what I need them to do without them knowing what I am trying to get them to do. Getting them to concentrate on something else while I give them simple directions usually works perfect to get a natural look from a client.
