Behind The Lens

Location

This picture is taken in Varanasi (UP) India. Exactly fifteen days after the Hindu religious festival of Diwali, is held "Dev Diwali". On this day Varanasi becomes the hub of festivities. Literally thousands earthen oil lamps are lit and placed along the eighty 'ghats' (banks) turning the area into a fairyland glittering in the night. To capture the full glory of this spectacle one should view from off shore from the boats in mid waters of Ganges river.

Lighting

The shot was taken during night from a boat shaking in waters of Ganges River. A totally hand held shot.

Equipment

Used Nikon D 90 Nikkor 50mm/1.8 lens. Exposure hand held at f1.8 at ISO 800 1/90sec +1 compensation

Inspiration

Rare sight of dazzling and twinkling lamplights bathing the city transforming it into fairyland look prompted me to take the photo.

Editing

In my camera bag

All Nikon gear. Currently I have D7200, with 24-120'f4, 85/1.8, Macro 60/2.8, 70-300/f4.5-5.6 and 50/1.8 , SB800 flash.

Feedback

If shooting in any low light situation don't be scared to boost up the ISO and post correct it. You can also convert to B & W if you have shot at very high ISO.
