Location
This picture was taken at Downtown Denver, Colorado during my Christmas vacation with my Californian family.Time
It was a very cold afternoon when the snow started to sprinkle down as our group of family stops and stares. This photo was taken on December 26, 2014.Lighting
Because this is a street photography photo, there is no time to actually think of setting up any lighting configurations. It is all about capturing at the right moment and to be fast enough to adjust your camera settings correctly. I found it very cool that some steam from her mouth was coming out and decided to quickly capture this memorable moment.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D810 using a manual NIKKOR 50mm 1.4 lens.Inspiration
Living in California is great weather, however we don't get this see the snow much. "Dannya" (my cousin's girlfriend) sticks her tongue out to give the snow a true taste of what it is like living in such a cold weather.Editing
My post-processing is usually very light and as much realist as possible. In this case I only adjusted the quite balance by increasing the cool temperature in this image rather than too warm. Then i adjusted the highlights by dulling them down a bit in order to show more details in our whites. Finish it off with a bit of masked sharpening to make our subject nice and sharp. In my camera bag
In my bag I usually keep my two handy primes which are Tamron 85mm 1.8 VC & Nikkor 20mm 1.8. I am a big fan of primes and I am not afraid of moving in and out of my way in order to achieve my vision to life. Another very useful lens that I always carry is my only zoom lens which is a Nikkor 70-300mm 4.5-5.6 VR. This lens is very good to get a great reach especially when shooting with a full frame body. However, for this instance I decided to travel very lightly and bring only one lens, the Nikkor 50mm 1.4 manual.Feedback
Shooting street photography is not as easy at it might seem. There are a lot of things to take under consideration before even snapping your first photo. First, make sure your comfortable with all your camera settings. Best mode in general is always Manual but not the fastest when it comes to shooting in the streets. Using Aperture Priority is usually much reliable and helps you think of one less setting for you to worry about. Another one is using Auto ISO, however you want to make sure to use a good light metering mode, for example I used Evaluating metering to achieve a decent balance between light and dark areas in my frame. Lastly, it is not always about capturing what is around you but what is happening in front of you rather. Look for memorable moments that you will never see again twice in your life.
