This was taken in my own leaf covered backyard on a cool Fall afternoon.Time
My backyard gets afternoon shade so this was taken later in the day when the sun had gone to the front of the house. It wasn't at the golden hour but I found a nice pocket of shade to plop Mr. Snowman down in.Lighting
This wasn't a planned photo so as for lighting I just made sure it wasn't in the blazing sun. I was low enough that any bright light to the side and behind didn't affect the pictureEquipment
I use a Nikon D600 and this was shot with the 80-200mm 2.8 lensInspiration
I took this photo to show the juxtaposition of the snowman and the ground covered in leaves. So close to winter but just not quite there yet.Editing
I primarily edit with Lightroom and then use PSE for any finishing touches. This photo, because it didn't have any people or skintones, required very little post processing. I ran a quick radial gradient and darkened some of the edges. In my camera bag
I typically shoot my own children so I have a variety in my bag. I never leave home with my D600, 20mm lens, 35mm lens and my 85mm lens. I LOVE the 80-200 however it is so big and heavy it isn't a "carry with me all the time" lens.Feedback
Get low!! What I love about this lens it's the ability to get just smallest slice of focus. When I was first starting out I used to forget to leave a good foreground but when you do you get much more visual interest in the front AND the back. By getting low and leaving foreground I was able to get the creamy bokeh both in front and behind the snowman.
