Fountains Abbey is approximately three miles south west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, England near to the village of Aldfield. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for over 400 years, until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries. It is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England.

Location
I took this shot at Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire, England.Time
It was taken at 1pm, on a snowy day, 18th March 2013.Lighting
NoEquipment
This shot was taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ10... No other equipment was used.Inspiration
My partner brought me here, he had mentioned I would more than likely enjoy having a play with my camera and boy was he right! Such a historically beautiful place, we went on the 18th March and it was snowing at the time, so there wasn't anyone else there and had the place to ourselves....As soon as I noticed this part of the ruin, my eyes were drawn to the what seemed never ending archways and how the snow had laid on the ground, after trying some angles to capture my perfect shot, I had to squeeze myself into a cove in the wall to achieve this one. I find it has a very majestic, yet eerie feel to it....Editing
This photo is a complete raw image. In my camera bag
I am very much a beginner to photography, so afraid my bag is very basic.... But the more I get into it, the more I realise I need to expand my equipment, a tripod is a first on my list and soon a camera upgrade, so I can change lenses to suit my needs.Feedback
I think catching this shot on a day when it had snowed, got me the right feel I wanted for the photo, but I am sure trying this shot in different weather conditions could bring something new to the image each time. I have since been to Fountains Abbey several times, in the different seasons and each time it brings a different feel to the place.
