Location
This photo was taken in my garage studio, outside of Nashville, TN. My subject was sitting on a piece of white cardboard, and I had another piece propped up behind him.Time
I captured this photo around mid-morning, during the week. It was a perfect time of day to get the shot I was looking for. Since I was indoors, I wasn't getting any harsh light from outside coming into the window, but just enough outside light.Lighting
I had some natural light coming in from one window, and than had my flash off camera. Sometimes I like the challenge of mixing natural light with artificial light in my studio.Equipment
I used my main camera, Canon Mark II 5D with a 50mm Canon lens. I used my Canon flash on top of a light stand off to the side, with a Westcott softbox.Inspiration
This little boy's father owns a small airplane, so he himself loves playing with airplanes. He had this little hat with the aviator goggles and I thought it would be an amazing shot to capture.Editing
I captured this photo in color, so the main post-processing I did for this image was changing it to black and white. In my camera bag
My camera bag usually contains my main camera, Canon Mark II 5D, Canon 50mm lens, Canon 20mm lens, and Canon 430 EXII flash. I also carry around back up batteries and memory cards. I also started to carrying around with me my Fujiflim XT-1 camera.Feedback
Working with little kids, sometimes you have to be really quick and work fast. It's good to have most of your ideas ready ahead of time and just with the flow. Have you light equipment all set up, with any props or backdrops and than just start shooting!
