Location

This photo was taken in our garden.

Time

The photo was taken late evening february at about 21:00 when the sunlight was gone and we had full control over the lighting.

Lighting

My son and I planned this photo together. He had made a homemade light sabre. We placed a flash light on the lawn and shutter time on the camera to 4 sec. He used 4 sec to move towards the flash light making swirls with the sabre and stop right in front of the flash light when it fired. We had to practise for some time, but at last we managed to make this photography.

Equipment

I used a Pentax KP with the smc PENTAX-DA 12-24mm F4 ED AL [IF] with focal length at 12.0 mm (18.0 mm in 35mm) and a Metz 48 AF-1 flash with Hahnel Captur trigger.

Inspiration

I was my sons interest in the Star Wars movies and that he made his own light sabre that put us to the idea to take this picture.

Editing

The background got to light due to 4 sec shutter time, so it had to be darkened in post prosess, and the light trail had to be adjusted a little.

In my camera bag

Back when the photo wast taken, i normally had my Pentax KP, Pentax 12-24, Pentax 16-85 and Pentax 50-135mm in my bag with a sirui tripod, and extra batteries of course.

Feedback

This was not a difficult photo to take, but you have to try several times to to stop at the flash at right time. It is also wise to have a neutral background making post processing easier.
