This photo was taken in the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud, Bali.Time
It was early afternoon and there were many several mama monkeys cuddling their young. I saw a hand pop out over mama's thigh and aimed my camera to catch the moment. Soon thereafter, a baby monkey's head followed the hand and stared right at me. The camera was aimed, focused and ready. I caught the l'il one perfectlyLighting
The lighting was diffuse due to the over hanging trees and gave me a nice portrait lighting.Equipment
Sony A7ii with an attached Sigma 100-500 mm zoom lens handheldInspiration
I love shooting wildlife and specifically monkeys. i've had opportunities to shoot different monkeys from howlers, capuchins and squirrel monkeys in Costa Rica, Langurs in Sri Lanka, Baboons in Africa and Macaques in Bali. The Sacred Monkey Forest was like being in disneyworld for me.Editing
Some mild sharpening and cropping in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I shoot Sony. My main body is an A7ii but I carry my older A5 as well. I usually have a fast 50 prime lens, a 100 mm macro, a 100-500 zoom and depending on where I'm going or shooting I will often rent specific lenses to suit the locale. I take a Manfrotto tripod, a sony flash with a Fong diffuser and a collapsible reflectorFeedback
obviously going where the animals are is crucial but finding a good guide and having plenty of patience helps. Luck always helps but remember to be ready as opportunity only knocks once.
