I took this photo at a meadow in Budapest, Hungary. I really like doing photoshoots outside in nature and use natural light for the face.Time
This shot was taken sometime during the day. It was cloudy so it was perfect as there was no harsh light. It must have been between 2 and 4 pm. The sky was cover in clouds but the day was bright enough to spread out a nice light. My favorite is a big natural softbox.Lighting
As I mentioned above my favorite time to do a photoshoot outside is when the weather is a big natural softbox. As she originally wanted to have headshots done, which we did, I also used the moment of the natural lighting to take some candid photos at the moment while moving around that perfectly captures a fine facial expression.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7000, 28-70mm/f2.8 lens. Nothing elseInspiration
My friend asked me to do headshots of her for a profile. At photoshoots, I also like to take some candid shots, that are not posed. Those are truly expressive and beautiful. Photos are done with headshots for a purpose, but nothing can substitute a fine a candid shot, which I love to take, because I love to catch the beautiful natural expressive faces in the moment while I distract my subject :-)Editing
I most definitely did. The raw was very plain but soft, and color. To enhance the mood I put it in b/w. After that, I slightly adjusted clarity, just to have contrast pop a tiny bit, on top I added a little bit of contrast, enhanced highlights, added bit of blacks and increased the overall sharpness of the picture. I also lifted the curve slightly from the blacks so it gives the picture an overall soft but sharp look.In my camera bag
The answer will probably surprise many. Being a photographer for a long time, I don't own many lenses, and the ones I had I sold as I upgraded to a full-frame over a year ago. So as of now, I have the Nikon D750, Manfrotto tripod, 28-70mm/f2.8 Nikkor lens. I love this lens so much, allows for a lot of play space in various environments.Feedback
The light is the most important part of the photo. And for the soft look, one would like a softbox. For this particular one and more natural, I recommend going outside play with the subject on a day when the sky is purely white as if the town is covered in a white blanket. Talking to the subject, communicating as friends helps to ease the moment and their facial expression for purity.
