Behind The Lens

Location

The sand dunes in Colorado

Time

This was shot midday, right around noon by the time we got there

Lighting

I always enjoy playing with harsh light which is why this was an ideal situation. The sun was right above us, and was reflecting pretty heavily off the sand, so it was tricky to try and position everyone for the light we were getting.

Equipment

This was shot with a canon mark IV and a 100mm macro 2.8 lens. Nothing else other than those two main pieces.

Inspiration

The girls got lined up and I just got off to one side and took the photo. Most of my inspiration comes from things that happen in the moment

Editing

There was very minimal post processing. I used a preset that I created on the photo, and just smoothed skin a little bit. I believe that I also lifted some of the shadows a little bit and increased the clarity

In my camera bag

I always shoot with a mark IV and for portraits my 100mm Macro is the go to. However I also like my 50mm and 70-200. I always carry a spare flash in my bag as well

Feedback

Always go with the flow. Dont be afraid to move around a lot and find an angle that works better for what you are trying to capture. With harsh sun it is so critical to move around just because one angle might have better light than the other
