Location
On a walk with my family down an Upstate New York road, I saw a perfect opportunity to capture a FPV holding my sons hand.Time
I captured this shot at my favorite time of day; Sunset!Lighting
The way the light passed through the trees onto the road caught my eye. I wanted to emphasize that perfect, golden hour light as to draw a certain vibe in the photo.Equipment
I shot this photo on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III with a EF 50mm f/1.8 lens.Inspiration
I love golden hour at sunset, so that gave me incentive to grab my camera for a family walk down the road. As we passed by a group of trees on the roadside, I noticed the flickering of sunlight shining through them. They cast a beautiful golden light onto the pavement of the road at my feet, drawing me to capture the moment. I wanted to show a relatable perspective of a special moment in my life.Editing
In this particular shot I used a preset my wife and I developed using Adobe Lightroom. I did add a few splashes of exposure to the sunlit areas at the feet as to bring out more of the color and brightness of the sun.In my camera bag
I normally carry a Canon EOS body with a 24, a 50, and a 70-300mm lens which allow me to capture a large range of focal lengths. I also carry a tripod and gimbal in case I want to record a few b-roll clips as well.Feedback
The main thing that I’ve found to be helpful is that, when a moment so precious as this arises, I try to stay in the moment as I’m taking the shot. I feel that if I’m enjoying the time instead of worrying about the camera and it’s settings, I tend to capture more organic, journalistic photographs. Time is way too short so, over everything else, enjoy the moments while they lasts.
