Location
This shot was taken during a vacation in Bled, SloveniaTime
I was up at 4:30 three mornings in a row in order to get the shot I had envisioned in my mind for a long time. The picture in my head was the beautiful Lake Bled, the church with colorful clouds in the sky. In reality it turned out to be a cloudless sky every morning when we where there. So I decided to try to create something different. I took several shots in the early morning, when the stars where still visible and some a bit later when the sky was lit by this glorious red before sunrise. My goal was to stitch the stars into the shot taken a bit later. A so called time blend.Lighting
Early morning and evening hours are often the most preferred by Landscape Photographers because of the beautiful golden light around sunrise and sunset. Personally I prefer to take my pics before sunrise and after sunset. This allows me to paint my work with a soft, nice light which I find very beautiful.Equipment
The Picture was taken with a Sony Alpha a7r2 and the FE 24-70mm GM-lens with a Gradient Density Filter 0.9. Of course a Tripod is absolutely necessary for this kind of work to make sure the frames blend together seamlessly.Inspiration
For many years I had admired the photos from various photographers I had seen from Slovenia and Lake Bled. So it was on my list of places to visit for some time. I find it still very attractive and look forward to visit this beautiful country again.Editing
I always shoot in Raw and start out in Lightroom to make some minor tweaks before I go to Photoshop and finish my work. I use Tony Kuiper's TK panel for precise masking, Nik Software and Topaz Plugins. In my camera bag
I usually carry my Sony A7R4, the FE12-24mm GM, The 24-70mm GM and the FE 100-400 GM in my bag. A set of ND filter, GND filter and polarizer. A Rollei tripod and a remote shutter release, spare batteries and camera cleaning set.Feedback
As a rule, try to plan your photography trip as good as possible. It almost never turns out exactly as planned, so stay open to changes, be flexible and keep your eyes open for unexpected opportunities. Try to be on location in good time ahead so you can try out different options like angels and positions beforehand. A very good advice is to scout the location during the day or some day before if possible. Check the weather forecast. Apps like PhotoPills help a lot to foresee the position of the sun, stars and the moon at different places and moments in time.
