Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken just outside of Smithsville, Tenessee.

Time

The eclipse happened around one where I was located. This photo was taken just after totality.

Lighting

The sun did all the work in this photo, no need for anything else.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3200 with a 70-300mm lens. To capture this photo I also used a tripod.

Inspiration

About a year ago, my family planned this trip to see the eclipse. From the day we started talking about going, I knew that I wanted to get this picture. My family was probably sick of hearing how much I wanted this photo! What inspired me most though was how excited my family was for the eclipse. I knew that I wanted to capture this moment perfectly so they can always remember the eclipse and our family trip.

Editing

On this photo I did minimal post-processing. I sharpened the image, but that was all. The eclipse provided all of the beauty in this photo.

In my camera bag

I have a one year old son, so on the go I can only take minimal items. I took a backpack and transformed it into a diaper bag/camera bag. So, at one time I pretty much carry one camera, two lenses, and a flash. I can't wait until my son is older and I can get back to having more picture capturing necessities.

Feedback

I am a beginner photographer, so the only advice I can give is believe in yourself. When I was setting up to take this photo, I had no idea what settings I wanted to use or what camera lens I needed. I just followed my instincts and I ended up with one of my favorite photographs so far!
