Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken on the Island Texel (my home town), one of the most beautiful places in Unesco's World Heritage The Frisian Sea aka The Waddensea. The windmill is called 'Het Noorden' - The Nortn. That day it was windstill, it is seldom windstill on our island. So I was very lucky that day to see the beauty of nature reflected perfect.

Time

It was one of the most beautifull moments early morning, just after sunrise approx 06:55 local time.

Lighting

The water was clear as a mirror and the reflection of windmill and sky almost perfect. Normally there is always wind on Texel.

Equipment

I use a Canon 5D Mark II with one of my oldest EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Canon objective on a tripod. ISO 100 28mm F8.0.

Inspiration

The picturesque mill is often photographed by tourists, but this was a particularly magical moment for me as a resident.

Editing

The horizon was corrected, nothing else.

In my camera bag

My Canon 5D Mark II is always in my bag together with my APS-C 7D Mark II with 600 mm objective.

Feedback

The weather changes on Texel can not be forced by you. You must have a lot of patience and choose the right moment, making your photos very special. The light is often fantastic here. At early morning and evening just before sunset are the best moments for such photos.
