This is not even YOUR best shot so how it has won image of the year defies logic!!! Poorly composed and not quite focused. Sorry to say but there were far far better images in the final than this one.

I will congratulate you on the win....however I must agree with simonmartinlewis. The cheetah is somewhat in focus and the comp is not the greatest. Is the cheetah actually chasing the gazelle in the background. To me it is not as they are on different planes. You do have much better images in your portfolio.

Catching the peak action is the hallmark of a great photographer. Congrats! I see this as a poster with the caption: "Think YOU'RE having a hard day?" ;o)

Location
This was taken on safari in the Masai Mara in Kenya. It was our last day. There were three cheetahs involved in this chase after an Impala. I still can't get over how fast and how much ground the cheetahs covered in such a short time.Time
This was late morning on September 2, 2016. As soon as the drivers spotted the cheetahs and impalas the excitement was nonstop. We had to get in position before it was too late, which we did, and the show unfolded right in front of us. It was amazing to see!Lighting
I was thankful this didn't happen when the sun was just coming up because the lighting would have been too/ dark to capture this fast action.Equipment
I was using my 1DX Mark II with a 1.4x extender. The lens I was using was my 100-400mm Mark II.Inspiration
I love wildlife action and this day we hit the jackpot!Editing
I did crop this photo and I used Photoshop for the post-processing.In my camera bag
For wildlife my go-to equipment is my 1DX Mark II with my 100-400mm mark II lens. I always have my extender for animals and birds that are at a distance.Feedback
When on a safari, the animals, birds and reptiles can show up at any time. You need to have your camera ready for the light that you are currently in because when they show up, it can happen in an instant.
