I took this photo while participating in the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk. We visited a cigar rolling company in Ybor City near downtown Tampa. I noticed this worker light up a cigar and then reward himself with a puff after he rolled every couple cigars. I used what little spanish I know to ask him to take just one more puff for me. I loved the soft light hitting his face as he sat in front of the window.

I took this photo while on a Kelby Photo Walk in Ybor City, near Tampa, Florida. I was with a group of photographers looking for that one special photo.Time
The photo was taken when the sun was high in the sky. The cigar roller was sitting right in front of a window so the light was very soft. I thought the lighting was perfect.Lighting
I love soft natural light when possible. In this particular shot it was the soft window light that I loved so much. When I am chasing waterfalls in North Carolina I prefer over cast days or even rainy days. That sort of lighting makes the falls evenly lit without the harsh highlights. I think it also adds a moody feeling to my photographs.Equipment
I'm a Canon girl. For this photo I was using my 5D Mk II and my 16-35mm lens.Inspiration
I went into the cigar store thinking I might find an interesting shot and I was not disappointed. The cigar rollers were all busy rolling the beautiful tobacco leaves into cigars while shoppers observed. I noticed this gentleman light up a cigar and take an occasional puff. I set up the shot in my mind and then waited until he reached for it. I then asked him if he minded me taking his photo. He gave me a little nod and took a puff. I loved how the smoke drifted gently around his face. It wasn't until I got home that I read the signs on the wall behind him. I felt like they added to the story of the photo.Editing
There wasn't really a need for too much post processing. I converted this photo to black and white and brought up both the black and white just a bit to make it a bit more dramatic. In my camera bag
I shoot Canon but not because I dislike other brands. It is just what I started with years ago and have chosen to stay loyal. I live in North Carolina now so I shoot mostly nature. My favorite thing currently is waterfalls.I shoot with my Canon 5D MkIV. I always have my Canon EF16-35 mm f/2.8L II USM lens and my EF 70-200mm f/2.8 lens in my bag. When shooting waterfalls I use my Benro tripod with a Benro G3 Triple Action Ball Head.Feedback
My advice to other photographers is to learn all you can about light. No matter the subject you wish to photograph..... it's all about the lighting.
