Location
I took this photo in Rockport, Tx.Time
I had been out for most the day and wasn't finding anything interesting to shoot. Ithe had begun to rain and was getting close to sunset.Lighting
The lighting was an interesting mix of pre-sunset light and light filtering through rain clouds.Equipment
My camera is a Canon EOS 6d. The lens I was using was my EF 100-400 f4-f5.6 IS that I bought used last summer.Inspiration
I actually was driving down a vacation home street that runs along the bay. It was sprinkling on and off and I was about to turn around when I spotted the egret. The light seemed just right on him and he was framed just right so there weren't any distracting elements. Plus I just like birds. I'm not a birder watcher but they do fascinate me.Editing
I imported the raw file into Lightroom and just did some minimal adjustments. In my camera bag
My gear is pretty basic. I've only been shooting for a year. In my bag I carry my Canon 6D, Canon 24-105mm, Canon 100-400mm, Sigma 35mm 1.4 art, Samyang 85mm, Samyang 14mm.Feedback
Like I've always heard hunters and photographers say "get out early and stay out late". Most of my favorite photos are unplanned ones where I didn't think I would capture something I liked. I also try to shoot as much as possible and my wife is finally used to me always carrying my camera with me. If you don't have your camera with you you'll probably miss something and regret it.
