My first ever indoor natural light session! Caught a gem!

My first time in California I visited this beach side bowl and a spectacular young man arrived to entertain hundreds.

My first time in California. I visited the Griffith Observatory in the day time.

I was on a mission in England. We took a lunch trip via train to seaside Whitby for authentic fish and chips!

I was eating dinner with my host family in England.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Eisenhower State Park in North Texas. About an hour north of Dallas. It's a large park. It would take more than a day to traverse all of its trails. This cliff at the edge of the photo is called "Lover's Leap". It's a serene, isolated panoramic oversight of Lake Texoma, about 40' above the rocky shoreline.

Time

This photo was taken in the afternoon, just a bit after lunch-- Perhaps 3 o'clock!

Lighting

The lighting was harshly beaming down from the sun. Everything was so bright, it reflected some light back off of itself! The water shows wonderfully on the top of my adventure journal. The weathered bench shines up at the leather grain, exposing its own distinct nature of imperfection and wear.

Equipment

I used my Canon 6D with the fantastic 24-70 mm f/2.8L made by Canon.

Inspiration

I went for a lengthy walk and I had a lot on my mind. Photography, for me, is a way of meditation. This picture holds the book of my heart of all my favorite adventures, and this location is one I frequently find myself yearning for. The empty, worn out bench contains a well kept book. It represents solitude that you feel from being here in person. There's a lot of sentiment to be captured in photographs. This vivid photo really captures how perfectly I feel this location is.

Editing

I used Adobe Lightroom on the RAW image. I started with a preset and changed a few sliders. I took a brush and brought some shadows out of the book to create some interest on the subject.

In my camera bag

I have an ONA bag-- the Brixton in cognac. It's gorgeous. Inside it I keep a pack of SD cards and a pocket knife.. A couple of pens and a few sheets of scratch paper. Oh yeah, also my Canon 6D with a Canon 24-70mm f/2.8! On most adventures I'll also bring my Bose Soundlink Mini II and a hammock. Perfection.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to zooooooooom! Sure it's a landscape but it needs to have focus. Something like a book creates a need for inspection, it's pages are mysterious and may cause one to continue thinking about the image after its not in front of them, it may evoke some emotion about a place the viewer has sentiment in.
