Location
Taken in the Launceston Cataract Gorge in Northern Tasmanian Australia. It was a World Cup White Water Championships. The Hydro release a massive water flow from the Trevallny dam at the head of the gorgeTime
The photo was taken about at 12.00 noon in very bright sunlightLighting
The bight overhead light meant I had to expose so as not to burn out the white waterEquipment
I was using and Olympus E3 with a zuiko lens 50-200mm. shooting at 200mm f5.6 s1/750 with spot meteringInspiration
White water kayaking can be very exciting a World Cup event meant the best in the world were competing. Wanted to capture some great shots of Tasmanian kayakers.Editing
I needed lighten the face of the kayaker by 3/4 of a stop and add some sharpeningIn my camera bag
Today I am using a Nikon d750 with sigma 150-600mm of sport and a Nikon 70-200mm f2.8, a Nikon speed light SB-910Feedback
Normally it requires and early visit to the location to find a great spot taking into account the light [sun & shadow] and a clear view where spectators won't get in the way. I this case I had my feet hanging in the water.
