Stunning portrait, contrast, skin tones, all make for a beautiful keepsake, hope Elizabeth liked it :)

Location
I took this photo in a rental studio in Florida about a block from the beach. We went to the beach later that day to shoot but came across a bar on the way. Needless to say we never made it to the beach.Time
I arrived at the studio around noon to set up. Elizabeth arrived shortly after wearing shorts and this big floppy sweater.Lighting
I like to keep my lighting simple but effective for the subject. In this shot I place the model about 8ft. from the cyc wall and used one light in a medium octabox placed just above the camera. I used a bit of a subtractive light set up with a black flat on either side.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D90 with an 35-70mm 2.8 lens.Inspiration
She came in with this big floppy sweater, and immediately I wanted to use it in the shoot. I remembered a photo of actress Elizabeth Shue years earlier for either GQ or Esquire that I found ridiculously sexy, so I started from there. I put my spin on it by placing on some stacked apple boxes.Editing
Elizabeth need very little retouching, and because of the subtractive lighting technique I used, no contouring was needed. So, I just did a tiny bit of skin work with the healing brush and dodging and burning. In my camera bag
I love gear porn as much as anyone. However, I've been shooting with my Nikon D90 since it came out. Shortly after I got it, I found a used 35-70mm 2.8 lens on eBay that was in excellent condition. I guess it's time to upgrade, so I'm going to join the masses and ditch the Dslr for the Sony a7rii some time soon.Feedback
I'm all about walking into a shoot without any preconceived ideas. However, I love looking at photographs old and new to find inspiration. My tip would be to find your inspiration for a shoot, then change things around a bit to give it your own voice.
