Behind The Lens
Location
This image was shot at the Villa Marco Polo Inn, a five star bed and breakfast in Victoria, British Columbia.Time
It was late afternoon when we captured this image. The sun was setting behind the trees and it was getting cold. This was one of the last shots of the day and consequently one of the best ones.Lighting
Since we were surrounded by dense trees and the it was late afternoon, I used an off camera flash with a soft box to cast some light on my model.Equipment
My camera at the time was a Canon 6D; hand held. I used by 430EX II flash, soft box and a Canon 24-70mm IS USM lens.Inspiration
These images are the result of a local fashion designer’s vision arising from a visit to the Villa Marco Polo Inn, located in the historic neighbourhood of Rockland, in Victoria BC. She (Jennifer Small) immediately became captivated with the residence’s enchanting atmosphere and was inspired to assemble a photo shoot modeled after the Edwardian time period.Jennifer’s beautiful designs were influenced by the villa’s compelling history. The home was designed, built and presented to a young bride by her newly betrothed as a wedding gift. A true tale of romanticism in a gilded age.Editing
Yes I did. I adjusted the brightness a little in RAW then tweaked the image in Photoshop by cloning out a few bits in that were stuck in the model's hair, adjusted the levels on the dress to make it pop, adjusted the overall tone of the image by making it slightly warmer and finally overlaid a rough background to give the trees a rough texture. In my camera bag
I now carry a Canon Mark III body, my 24-70mm Canon lens, my 100mm macro Canon lens, spare batteries for my flash and camera, my flash, my cordless shutter release, filters for my lenses, gels for my flash, cleaning supplies, pens and a notebook.Feedback
I set my aperture to f4 to capture the ambient light and added flash to make my model stand out from the background and the focal length was set to 70mm.
