Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the attic of my university's library. A small group of us were granted special access to go up and shoot for a couple of hours and we were definitely grateful for the opportunity

Time

It was around three o'clock in the afternoon, it was an overcast cloudy, rainy day, for that I was actually pretty thankful.

Lighting

I wanted to make him look wise in the way that I had shot it, I had just really gotten to know him and about his Native heritage and I wanted to create a tribute to that in a way, the lighting brought out the features in his face pretty perfectly.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3200 and an 18-55mm kit lens

Inspiration

Since we had special access to the attic I was just setting up any shot that crossed my mind, there are actually a few more shots from that shoot in my profile, he just had the most expressive face out of our little group and I thought he was the perfect fit, its funny that hes sporting such a serious face because he was always cheerful and smiling, despite the gloomy weather.

Editing

All I did was adjust the contrast a bit more and warmed up the color a bit so you could see the brick in the window a little clearer.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D3200, an 18-55mm kit lens and a 70-300 mm telephoto Tamron lens. I also have a Nikon lens pen to kept everything clean and shoot ready plus a few extra SD cards and my charger.

Feedback

I personally love deep rich contrast so I tend to shoot with a higher aperture and kind of adjust shutter speed accordingly, I try not to play too much with the Iso even in low light conditions if I can help it because it effects the quality of your shot, other than that, little adjustments to contrast and brightness can be made after the fact,
