Great concept...Great composition! Professional quality. If the dog was looking up into her eyes, this would be an absolute killer.

I like that the dog is NOT looking into her eyes. It leaves the viewer to wonder what the dog did! Ha! This is wonderful!

Girl: So did you eat the cat?"
Dog (looking mighty guilty): "What cat? I don't know anything about a stinking cat!!!"
great photo!

Behind The Lens

Location

I was at home literally laying in our hallway by the front door in our home in Batavia, IL.

Time

Oh gosh...I believe it was in the afternoon leaning towards early evening. I had just been outside with my grandpup and we were chillin' after a long hike out.

Lighting

There was some nice golden light coming through the front door which is what gave my daughter the nice rim light to her face. When I shot the image to capture her expression, I shot it somewhat underexposed. So thankful for PS! I could lighten it back up again!!

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon 5DMiii with no flash, and I believe my Canon 24-70 lens.

Inspiration

I LOVE when my grandpup Taylor comes to visit...he is such a ham for photos and I usually get something good! Well, I was laying on the floor in the hallway taking shots of him as he was relaxing by the door when my daughter Emily came home. She was headed for the upstairs when she quickly leaned over him and gave him 'the look'. That's when I snapped this.

Editing

I needed to post process this one especially since it was underexposed. I used both Aperture and PS for this one. I smoothed out Emily's skin, fixed the white balance and brightened the overall image with levels. I also added a texture to the whole image.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Canon 5DMiii (it's my baby) with my Canon 24-70, Canon 70-200, and my absolute LOVE...the Canon Macro 100mm. I use that one a lot since I typically shoot nature shots. I also have my Canon speedlite 430EXII, PocketWizard FlexTT5 and MiniTT1(for the much needed off camera flash shots), batteries and extra flash cards. Oh, and I can't forget my trailmix (craisins, dried cherries, almonds, dried mango, dried coconut!) I don't go anywhere without that! :)

Feedback

Yah! Get the exposure right the first time! Haha! I think if I had not taken 'one shot' but had the camera set to 'high speed continuous'I probably could have gotten Taylor looking right back into Emily's face...that would have made the shot. Always think ahead.
