I took this photo right here on my farm in Santa Fe, Texas.Time
It had been a long couple of days and nights, mostly nights.... I have been patiently waiting as well as content being sleep deprived from checking on Mamma all through the last few nights. I had been anxiously excited to be able to capture my first birth in the equine world! I purposely did not go anywhere for the last few days just so I would not miss this process. Yesterday started just like a normal day, fed all the horses, and let the mares out to pasture for a bit. And while Mamma was out to pasture, I still made my routine checks to see if she was having a baby. Well, I check on her and walk away....no baby. As I then had to tend to an emergency, within 20 minutes, she has her baby! In the middle of the day! So my husband who is racing down our driveway (Remember my emergency? I called my husband and of course panic for him to race home) saw the whole thing! He seen it all while racing down the driveway and said it all happened in a matter of seconds. She had her STANDING UP! She dropped and Mamma went right back to eating! I look over and said...are you serious? I just JUST checked her 20 min ago! And now there is a baby on the ground! SO while I missed the seconds of birthing process but I was able to capture a couple minutes to see baby while only 20-25 minutes old. Got a few shots and then made my way to emergency room just to make sure everything was Ok.Lighting
Well, it was maybe cloudy? Golly, I was in a panic that day as I was in the middle of an emergency....I don't even remember!Equipment
Grabbed my Nikon D3200 with my nifty fifty prime already attached and RAN out to the pasture~Inspiration
Like I mentioned above...I have been WAITING for soooo long to capture the birth of my mare having her baby! :)Editing
Just a bit of post processing,,,,added a little bit of matte and that was it.In my camera bag
Since everything still fits.....Everything! lolFeedback
Patience,,,,,even if that means being sleep deprived. Oh...and wait til the least expected time! Check and then turn around and double check! ;)
