Behind The Lens

Location

In my favorite coffee shop in Manchester! It's about 33 miles away from were I live, I will travel there just for coffee and inspiration.

Time

It was about 13.35 on black Friday on a shopping trip with two of my daughters, one had gone for a haircut and myself and my other daughter went for a drink and a sit down after fighting the crowds in the Christmas market.

Lighting

All natural light, supplied by two big windows the one you can see and the other just off my right shoulder which run at a 20 degree angle to the window you can see, it was a bright day with broken cloud so the sun was in and out.

Equipment

I shoot with a nikon D7100 I had a Tamron 10-24mm, I was at 24mm f4/5 exposure 1/125 f3/5 on that day no fill flash used ISO 1000 no tripod, rested on the arm of the chair.

Inspiration

Everyone in the picture! they were all just so naturally engrossed in what they wear doing saying or thinking evan the woman on the left who could of seen what I was going to do, but the lady was deaf and was talking with her friend so she was watching her hands so with everyone busy I decided to do the same and capture the moment as we like to say.

Editing

Yes but not alot! I like to get as much as I can Right in the camera I use lightroom first fix, lens correction then lifted the exposure just a little and tweaked the contrast black an white pulled and pushed then a little clarity and sharpening some vignetting and all done.

In my camera bag

The Nikon D7100 body, 3 SanDisk 32G Extreme SD SDHC 32GB 90MB/s UHS-I Memory Card Class 10 Nikon 55-300mm Nikon f4.5 5.6, Tamron 10-24mm Nikon f3.5 4.5, Nikon 35mm f1.8, Nikon 50mm f1.8 Nikon 40mm f2.8 macro, two nissin flashguns, Hama wireless remote trigger, Manfrotto 055xProB Tripod and Manfrotto 804RC2 Head, roket air blower, lens pen, and keep it all in Lowepro SlingShot 202 AW I have a lowepro toploader pro 75 aw for just taking camera out for street photography.

Feedback

I would say look for very natural set frame with the best composition you can achieve an what you would like the over all picture to look like when its complete, and think about whats going on and what you need to consider like people, light, reflections, textures, what lens is best and ISO, will you need a fast shutter speed or have you got all the time in the world to use a tripod and a remote triger to get them results, take more than one picture if possible one under, one correct and one over exposed, this will let you get the best picture you are looking for! Keep an eye out for other possible pictures that can come from the shoot so look around, don't worrie about getting it wrong because this is the way we learn, and grate pictures are born! remember the only bad picture is the one you didn't take!
