Behind The Lens

Location

Key West, FL from a condo balcony.

Time

Sunrise

Lighting

Used the natural light and stopped down 1 stop

Equipment

Shot with an old Sony cybershot I used to carry.

Inspiration

Loved the lighting and effect cloud cover gave the sunrise.

Editing

The pelican was actually taken separately a few minutes later when lightning was not as inter and I was able to photoshop it into this sunrise. I also applied an oil effect.

In my camera bag

I have used Nikon equipment since 1979 and up until a month ago used a d300. I had accumulated several lenses with my main glass being an 18-200 and a 300 f4. About a month ago I decided to take the plunge into mirrorless and now use a Sony A7RIII with 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 4.

Feedback

There are so many sources of material out there that can advise you much better than I can on how to take a great photograph. My best advice is to just get out and take as many photos as you can. The best photo is the one on your card and not the one you missed. Today’s cameras with their higher resolution and dynamic range will allow you to do many corrections in post processing as long as you captured the image to begin with.
