Location
It was shot near the train station which is my home station.I used to always walk past through it and always wanted to capture it.I took couple of shot in the day time but wasnt really impressed. One night I grabbed my camera and shot it in the night and it came out wonderful, same way which I was expecting and wanted it to be.Time
It was shot at night time around 11. I chose to shoot it at this time because there are no people walking through it at that time.Usually its quiet crowded and even you use a tripod u still get lot of movement as its a suspended passageway. So it shakes a bit when its crowded. This passageway closesat 10 ,so i waited fr the time and got my shot.Lighting
I knew it would look great in b&w from the begining as it has lot of contrast. It is next to the station so lot of light even at night and it is beautifully reflected from the metal beams.the shadows and the light on the beams creates stunning contrast and loved the leading lines disappearing the dark at the end of the pathway.Equipment
This was shot by Nikon D40x.I used 35 mm 1.8 lens. I didnt have my tripod with me ,so I put my camera on top of the gate of this passageway, which is used to close it during the night.I just used the ambient light, no flash.Inspiration
I like high contrast black and white pictures. As this passageway had great leading lines and the metal beams added more beauty to it.i like patterns and textures. when i saw this passageway, I was straight way taken away by the beauty of it.Editing
I always prefer to shoot in raw as it gives me more control in post processing.I corrected the white balance and lens correction in lightroom. i also cleaned some dust spots .then,I converted it in b&w and moved it into lightroom.I did some dodge and burn in some areas and boosted the contrast using curve layer and finally it got this end result. In my camera bag
I prefer to carry minimal equipment with me . I love street photography a lot and want to be light as I walk a lot.I would always carry 2 extra batteries and 2 memory cards. In some cases i would carry my tripod when Iplan to be shooting in low light or when doing long exposures.Feedback
Always watch around you, you will always find something intresting to shoot.Try different angles of the same scene.Lightning is the key for a good picture ,so always study the light.Try using a tripod when shooting in night as it gives you more control and options.Always take couple of shots of the scene using different settings. You can always choose the best later on.
