This deserves any awards it gets. This has the fell of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Location
I took the photo whilst I was in Malta, in a place called Burkett Gardens, that dates back to the times when the Knights were in Malta around the 16th century. The gardens are open to the public and can be visited at any time, and is the perfect location for a photo session.Time
I took the photo just before sunset, it was a clear Autumn day in September with not a single cloud in the skyLighting
To create the mist effect, I used a very small battery powered smoke machine, I made a number of attempts as trying to operate the smoke machine whilst taking the photo was no easy task, otherwise I did not use any artificial lighting, other for one small reflector which helped fill some of the shadows.Equipment
I used a Sony A7R3 with an FE 12mm to 24mm F4 Sony full frame lens, there was no need to use a tripod and no artificial light was used to take the photo.Inspiration
Buskett Gardens is one of a very few woodland areas in Malta and perfectly suited for a photo session. This particular shot was unplanned but as the sun was about to set, it was the perfect opportunity to make best use of the light as it made its way through the orange orchard creating shafts of light that were further enhanced using the smoke effect.Editing
I used Lightroom to adjust the colours and enhance the contrast having shot the photo in raw.In my camera bag
I always carry a range of lenses from 12mm to 200mm, I don’t normally use the 12mm to 24mm on model shoot but this was one of those rare occasions where I did, I frequently use the Sony 35mm 1.4 and 85mm 1,4 fixed lenses as I like to work using a very wide aperture especially as I am frequently using ambient light when I need a fast lens to maintain my shutter speed. Otherwise I carry very few other camera equipment, I find the range of fixed and zoom lenses cover all my needsFeedback
The weather played an important part in making this shot a success, if it was not for the very calm evening with practically no wind, the smoke would have been blown away within seconds. Having a cooperative model together with a great sunset made this one of those not to be missed opportunities, that would have been difficult to plan ahead.
