Congratulations on being People's Choice in my 2022 First Snow Challenge. I love the symbolism of the little tree holding on to its leaves in spite of the cold winter snow - also the older trees standing guard and protecting it. Great work.

Location
This photograph was taken in Dolliver Memorial State Park Near Fort Dodge, Iowa. The park runs along the Des Moines River and has interesting geological formations.Time
As with any situation, time of day affects the image. I was scouting the park mid-afternoon when the little tree caught my attention.Lighting
I prefer to use a very low ISO whenever possible, but due to not having a tripod along and the clouds of a winter storm overhead, I chose an ISO of 400. I liked the contrast of the small tree hanging onto its leaves against taller bare trees with newly fallen snow on their branches.Equipment
Image was taken with a Canon 5D Mark IV and a Canon L lens 24-116 F4.Inspiration
The small tree still bearing its leaves into the winter season was the inspiration for this picture. it seemed to say, "If I can withstand this, so can you!"Editing
Lightroom is my favorite choice for post-processing. I cropped the image and made small adjustments. Since I shoot in RAW, I was able to select "cloudy" white balance. In my camera bag
Sometimes I travel light with just my camera and a specific lens. Lens depends on destination and what I'm interested in shooting. I like having a lens cleaning cloth along. A tripod and 2nd lens are often included. Helpful items are flashlight, cable release, extra memory cards and spare battery.Feedback
It is fun to look for contrast. Rule of thirds doesn't always need to be followed.
