Leaving the ground,
Shadows have spread in the life.

Walking aimlessly,
On deep dark paths.

Having just one hope in our heart,
That there may reside at least one single ray of light...

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Kalahandi, Odisha. I was making a documentary on the lives of the Tribes of Odisha! The things I saw there brought many unknown feelings to me. It was scary, fascinating, revolting and life changing!

Time

It was almost 1:30 in the afternoon and I was travelling from one village to another with my whole team in a boat, we were all hungry, but as I saw both of them my hunger disappeared and I got lost in them!

Lighting

Lighting is nothing but creating shadows! And the shadows covering the faces of the mother and the child gave me the content of my photograph, gave the meaning to my photograph. The shadow says many things, their faces hiding in dark says many things!

Equipment

I shot it on Canon EOS 80D with 18-135mm f/3.5 mm lens.

Inspiration

I was just sitting in the boat as the stop of this lady with a child came. They got off the boat and I saw them, there faces were covered with shadows and I felt that there faces had so much to say but the shadow has overpowered them and it is caging them, just like poverty!

Editing

I turned it into a black & white photo and increased contrast by some points.

In my camera bag

I have Canon EOS 80D, 18-135mm Lens, 50mm Lens, a Tripod, a Monopod, Gopro Hero 7

Feedback

Don't capture just because you have all the equipment, capture because you have to say something, you have to share the stories of people, you have seen that beauty inside you first... Only those who have seen the beauty inside them can see it outside!
