The tecoma flower, locally given the colloquialism, "Penang sakura" as it resembles the famous cherry blossoms of Japan, Taiwan, Korea, etc in color from afar. However, up close, the petals of the tecoma are larger. The blossoms themselves are trumpet-shaped, giving this tree it's other name, as "tecoma" means trumpet-shaped. These bloom in reds, whites, and pinks of varying tints and tones; as well as yellow, during the month of February and-or March in Penang, Malaysia. They need the hot, dry weather typically found there that time of year to bloom profusely.
These trees were originally native to Central American tropical regions.
