This photo was taken of my granddaughter at the Nepean Private Hospital, Penrith NSW Australia.Time
I took this image on our second visit to see our youngest granddaughter which was at 5:30pm on day two of her entry into this world.Lighting
The lighting was nothing special. A typical hospital fluorescent lit room with a little natural light creeping in the window. I don’t use flash therefore this was all just the lighting in situ.Equipment
I used my Canon 5D mk iii, Canon 100mm macroInspiration
Who could not be inspired by a brand new grandchild! She is so precious that I take every opportunity that is given to me to capture such moments of her life. My husband was holding her when she just kicked her little foot out of the blanket. The perfect moment to take her delicate minuscule foot.Editing
As this was taken at 8000 ISO, I smoothed it in Lightroom as well as modified the colour slightly to rid the image of the fluorescent tinge. In my camera bag
I have two bags. One is a backpack for ‘on the go’ photography where I pack my Canon 5D mk iii and Canon 5D mk iv with Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 and Canon 70-200mm f/2.8. The other bag is a roller and is my workhorse for big events such as weddings. This has the above gear in it as well as Canons 50mm f/1.2, 100mm f/2.8, 85mm f/1.2, 16-35mm f/2.8. I also carry an emergency kit in this bag that includes needle and thread, tissues, scissors, bobby pins and bandaids. This has come in extremely helpful, especially for weddings where I have been known to sew mishaps on wedding dresses on numerous occasions.Feedback
The only advice I can give is to be ready and prepared with camera in hand for any unexpected moment such as this little foot peeking from out of the blanket. With babies and children you cannot stage the best image. The best is the one you don’t expect!
