Behind The Lens

Location

Belgravia Manor, Edinburg VA

Time

The manor and stairwell were dimly lit on this couples wedding day I believe it was around 3 or 4 PM

Lighting

The light that was stifled through the window on the stairwell wasn’t much to work with. I positioned the tripod at the top of the steps and used on camera flash with a Mahmoud diffuser to get the light right on camera.

Equipment

AD200 with an umbrella at the top of the stairs on a tripod. Triggered from a godox 685 bounce from a Nikon D750. I’m not a fan of direct flash so I used a mag mod dome diffuser to soften the blow.

Inspiration

The stairwell in the manor was begging me for a shot like this. The bride was super excited to go along with it too.

Editing

Basic edit in Lightroom. The bride and location were both gorgeous so not very much post processing was necessary.

In my camera bag

Nikon D750, Godox TT685, AD200, Magmod diffusers and light treatments.

Feedback

One trick that helped me with this particular image was to set ISO for the ambient lighting, in the case the window to the left of the bride, and then use the flash to complement. Flash settings were quite low for this image, let your camera do the heavy lifting and your lighting will appear more natural!
