We went on a day trip. I needed a "wavy" analogy for a sewing stitch (gathering), I wanted to include in one of my online sewing classes. We got as far as Genoa, NV from Carson City where we live. We turned left off of the road headed South and headed East toward Minden/Gardnerville slowly. Suddenly I saw the field that had been recently processed. It was PERFECT!!! My hubby stopped the car. I got out and stood by a fence and simply took the picture. St the time I didn't worry about exposure, composition or anything.Time
It was mid day and simply a beautiful day in Nevada with only a few fluffy clouds against a blue sky.Lighting
At the time I didn't worry about lighting. I was just happy I had found something to take a picture of that was "wavy".Equipment
My camera was a simple point & shoot camera, (Sony DSC-W810), with no way to adjust it. I had to wait patiently for y hubby to find a extra job so I could afford a better camera. The picture was taken in May. I got a better camera in September, discovered it didn't have a standard hot shoe (Canon T7) and got the Canon T7i in October 2019.Inspiration
I've been putting together online sewing classes. I thought getting pictures of analogies of hand sewing stitches would bean interesting addition to the classes. For the "gathering stitch" I needed something to simulate going in and out of the fabric with the needle. I thought a "wavy" pattern would work so I talked my hubby into a photography day trip. I never dreamed I would get so lucky and find that field.Editing
No. I didn't even crop it! At the time I didn't know anything about Lightroom and didn't do anything in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I only had my camera. I didn't bring a tripod or anything.Feedback
Wait for the month of May when fields look like the one in my picture. Other than that, pay attention to the time of day, weather, settings and composition. Settings if you have a camera with the ability to be set up the way you want.
