I took this photo in South Carolina at a stop over during a 300 mile journey to the Extreme Mustang Makeover Challenge. The Mustang was only 90 days from running wild with the wild herds out West. The trainer was on the way to compete and was finalizing his work with the Mustang.Time
I shot this about an hour before sunset.Lighting
Totally natural back lit by the sun. There was a large barn at my back that was delivering some shadow fill.Equipment
I was using a Canon 5D Mk III with a 24-70 2.8 Canon Lens.Inspiration
I had spent 3 days on the road with this trainer and two mustangs. They were riding the backroads from Pittsboro NC to the Challenge in SC raising money for the Wounded Warriors foundation. I took dozens of photos, this was one of my favorites.Editing
I use Lightroom. I brought up the shadows and blacks and added a bit of a vignette. The lens flare is natural, no plugins there. In my camera bag
I have a pair of Canon bodies...5D Mk III and IV. I mainly use a 24-70 and a 70 -200. Both 2.8. Various filters and a tripod.Feedback
I started shooting in the '70s. The two rules were, "protect the whites" for Transparency and "expose for the highlights and print for the shadows" for black and white negative. I still live by those rules in Digital photography.
