Location
I took the picture outside. It was in the village where I found the interesting face of this old lady.Time
It was early autumn between 11 am and 12 am.Lighting
Fortunately, the day was not sunny but bright enough. A thin but smooth layer of clouds gave a soft light that is great for photography. In fact, deep shadows on a wrinkled face could give an interesting effect, but I could also lose a lot of details. If, however, there was sharp sunlight, I would have to set the model in the shade. However, the old lady was not in a good physical condition and I decided to use the light I found.Equipment
I use a cheap Sony a58 camera but I use good lenses. I like fixed-focal lenses and fully manual even without autofocus. Such is one of my favorite Samyang 135mm F2.0 lenses, which is very sharp and I have to soften the image by setting the appropriate function in the camera. I have a fairly stable hand and I do not need to use a tripod in such light. The flashlight was unnecessary at the moment.Inspiration
I love to photograph people. Sometimes I see beautiful portraits of interesting faces and look at them with envy. It is not easy to accost people and ask them to pose for photography but this time I was with a friend who knew the model personally.Editing
Originally the photo was against the background of the house. It is true that the depth of field beautifully smudged the wall of the house but I decided that it would be better if I change the wall to a more neutral gradient. I used the popular and free Gimp program. After this modification, the photo looked great but I lacked the strong character of the wrinkled face. To strengthen the scratches, I used the minimal effect of the HDR filter. Now the picture showed what I expected of him.In my camera bag
I always have a camera at hand. Even when I am going to work, I have even a camera on my mobile phone with me. On non-working days, I take with me my Sony A58, three Samyang 135mm F2.0, 35mm F1.4 and 16mm F2.0 lenses. They are all fully manual. In the car I also have a tripod and two flashlights released by radio.Feedback
There is such an unwritten truth that says that it is not the camera that takes pictures only man and the quality of the pictures depends mainly on the man and the lens he uses. My camera cost only $ 300 so do not try to explain the poor quality of your photos at the expense of a weak camera. Invest in a good lens. Try to understand how the light works, the aperture, the sensor's sensitivity and the effect of the shutter speed. Photograph and analyze the results of your work. Try to be better and better. Pay attention to the quality of light, which has a definite effect on the nature of the photo. Do not be ashamed to ask for posing for photography, but always explain why you want to take a picture and tell your model that the photo will be on the internet. Use the tripod as an inseparable part of your camera even on a sunny day. Remember the golden screen division and the ways of framing. Do not cut off the models of the hands and feet, do not put the model too far, try to fill your frame with it.
