Location
This shot was taken at Raymond Terrace, New South Wales. Australia overlooking the Hunter River.Time
Sunset.Lighting
Lighting is all natural (I feel the foreground could have been illuminated a little to bring out some detail).Equipment
The image was taken using a Canon 600d fitted with a Samyang fisheye 8mm F3.5 lens set up on an Optex tripod. F11. ISO 100 shutter speed 1/10th sec.Inspiration
I was out and about early that morning for a sunrise shoot in another location but very thick fog put paid to that. This particular location looks great when the water is calm as the river is quite wide and the reflections seem to go on forever. There is a boat ramp just down stream which makes the area very popular with water skiers so it can be difficult to get the water as flat as it was on this afternoon.Editing
My Photoshop skills are very basic to say the least. I normally make adjustments to highlights/shadows/exposure and then tweek colours etc until the RAW image looks close to that on the cameras screen. In my camera bag
My one and only camera body (Canon 600d) and the two kit lenses it came with (18-55 and 55-250mm). Other lenses include the Samyang 8mm fisheye and a canon 50mm 1.8. I often use a Canon 430EX11 speedlite to illuminate the foreground if I feel that it's required.A remote shutter release and the Optex tripod.I do have some filters that I purchased just after I bought the camera but their lack of quality makes them almost useless.Feedback
Preparation and patience!! Always give yourself plenty of time to set up and always double check your camera settings A tripod may be a pain sometimes to carry around but they really are worth the effort If you can, visit the location before you plan a shoot. Check for different compositions that you may be able to get Never get so carried away with what is happening in front of you that you don't check over your shoulder. For sunrise and sunset shoots the Photographers Ephemeris is invaluable;.Set out to please yourself (no-one else) and most importantly keep it fun.
