Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at Whitewater Falls in North Carolina, near the South Carolina border, at the end of October last year.

Time

Everything about this picture was spur of the moment, even the destination! I was actually on a trip with my family when we first learned about Whitewater Falls and when I found out there was water fall nearby I knew I had to go see it. After taking the detour to get there, it was afternoon, sometime around 3, and it ended up being a great time of day to take pictures of the falls.

Lighting

I think the cloud coverage helped convey the slightly chilly autumn feel in the photo.

Equipment

I took this picture with my trusty Canon PowerShot SX30IS

Inspiration

I had no intention of taking this picture or even visiting the falls until the day I actually took this picture. Sometimes I think the best photos are born from spontaneity and inspiration can happen anytime and anywhere. I always try to be prepared because you never know when a great photography opportunity will show up.

Editing

No post processing on this picture :)

In my camera bag

I usually pack light, just my canon powershot sx30IS and also my waterproof Canon D20, because I hate having rain ruin my chances of taking a decent picture.

Feedback

Taking landscape pictures can be frustrating at times and I find that it helps to take way more pictures than you think you need, that way at least one of them is bound to turn out the way you expected! Also, always be prepared for anything (nature can be very unpredictable) and have patience.
